Kidney stones

Kidneys are bean shaped paired organs located in the back of the abdominal cavity. The size of the left kidney is app 11.2 cm and right kidney is app 10.9 cm in adults. Kidneys participates in whole body homeostasis and help in control of various body fluid compartments, fluid osmalility, acid-base balance, various electrolyte concentrations, and removal of toxins, and also controls blood pressure and stimulates bone marrow to produce red blood cells. The sequence of process involved in renal function is filtration, reabsorption, secretion and excretion.

Renal calculi: Commonly called as kidney stones is mainly due to buildup and/or accumulation of dissolved minerals, salt and proteins formed in the kidneys. The leading cause of kidney stones is lack of fluid/water in the body.

The predisposing factors are

Dietary factors: Excess intake of calcium either in diet or in the form of supplements.

Metabolic causes: Hyperparathyroidism and gout. More acidic urine can precipitate calcium

Renal infection: Due to E.coli, staphylococcus, and streptococcus infection, produces more urea and stasis of urine can precipitate calcium.

Excessive use of Anti inflammatory drugs

High intake of salt products

PSigns and symptoms: Most of the times the kidney stone remains symptomless until it moves further into ureter. The common symptoms are

Pain: pain in the groin, low back, renal region. The nature of the pain is “colicky pain” and could be radiating in the directions of urine flow

Hematuria: Blood in the urine

Pain associated with nausea and vomiting

Dysuria: Burning sensation with reduced amount of urine and persistent urge for urination

Fever and chills if associated with UTI (urinary tract infection)Cystine stones

Types of stones: Based on composition, stones are classified into
Calcium oxalate
Calcium phosphate
Uric acid stones
Xanthine stones

Complications:

Urinary tract obstruction leading to Hydroureteronephrosis

UTI (urinary tract infection)

Renal failure leading to CKD (chronic kidney disease)

Investigations: The routine investigations needed for diagnosis are

Urine analysis
Blood urea
Serum creatinine
KUB x-ray
Ultrasound

Role of Homeopathy: At Sathyam Homoeopathy we treat every individual as a new patient, provide treatment based on the totality of symptoms (constitution of the individual both physical and mental status) and present symptomatology and genetic approach to not only relieve the symptoms but to remove the root cause of the disease. We provide standard method of treatment and quality medicines so that we can assure better results. In case of renal calculi, patient can be relived from the pain and other symptoms and can be prevented from further complications of the disease through homoeopathy.
